A Book Club Unit of study can last from two to four weeks, depending on the text, topic and students. There are four Book Club units per grade, each one with different curriculum connections.

Teachers introduce the theme with a read aloud text, then use the shared reading texts for strategy instruction and practice. Students continue to explore the topic, and apply the new strategies with a Book Club text appropriate to their independent reading level.
